Beautiful Pair of restored AR 2a speakers. They were likely manufactured in late 1959 – 1960. These are AR 2a speakers which have had a factory upgrade kit essentially turning them into the AR2ax. Serial #’s : D 19390 and D 19400 I believe the cabinets are Mahogany Veneer. From the Classic Speakers Page: These speakers were manufactured around 1960 when the AR-2a was introduced and included the original AR2’s 10″ woofer (cloth surrounds) and 1 3/8″ dome tweeter of AR-3. X-o is 2000, 7500 Hz. In 1964–First-generation AR-2ax replaces 2a. Dual 5″ drivers replaced by single 3 ½” midrange. Retains 1 3/8 tweeter. X-o frequencies same as 2a. AR-2 replaced by AR-2x. Again dual 5″ drivers replaced by single 3 ½” driver. X-o still 2000 Hz. AR offers factory upgrade kit to customers who wish to upgrade their older 2 to 2x or 2a to 2ax status. Replacing the dual 5″ drivers with single 3 1/2″ driver. Speakers were recapped less than a year ago w/ Dayton Audio Caps. Tweeter and mid range driver pots were cleaned and lubricated and all drivers produce sound. These pots are known to cause issues over the years. It will sooner or later be time to either rebuild the pots or replace them. Woofers were surrounded with a long lasting cloth material vs. Please ask questions, I’ll do my best to answer to the best of my abilities. The speakers look and sound beautiful. New grill cloth has been added, these are all original speakers except for the new caps, grill fabric and new replica AR badges.
