Housing a 3/4″ exposed soft dome tweeter and a 1 1/2″ exposed dome midrange, which utilizes Acoustic Research’s Filtered Soft Dome Technology, the AR 302 delivers silky highs and smooth midrange, while its 10 acoustic suspension long-throw woofer fills in bottom octaves with powerful, extended bass. For those who want a reference quality performance in a compact package, the AR 302 represents an excellent value, offering topflight performance. The cone is made of rigid felted paper and when combines with a very compliant surround, it acts like a piston. The long-throw voice coil is designed to undergo large displacement while maintaining linearity. The compression and expansion of the air in the sealed enclosure provide the restoring force to the cone. It is this True Acoustic Suspension Technology, combined with AR’s legendary drivers, that enable Acoustic Research speakers to create thunderous bass with minimal distortion from remarkably small cabinet enclosures. Acoustic Research pioneered the dome driver in 1958. AR continued this engineering innovation by introducing the Exposed Dome Driver Technology. While the exposed dome driver functions electronically in the same manner as a more traditional cone transducer, there are important difference in its construction. The radiant element is a domed surface which is less prone to distortion at high frequencies and offers smoother response throughout its operating range. Exposed dome drivers also disperse sound more evenly over a wider listening area for a more life-like sound and natural tonal balance from virtually any listening position in the room.
