Vintage set of Acoustic Research AR5 speakers. These have the 10 inch woofer, and are modeled after the famous AR3a, except with a 10 inch woofer instead of the 12 inch woofer. They sound very similar as the AR3a (I own those too) The midrange sounds are excellent and the Hivi tweeter gives nice sweet highs with excellent clarity. Easy to drive with a 8 ohm impedance. I have recapped these with Dayton Poly caps , cleaned and lubed the original potentiometers (i leave them alone and make any tiny adjustments on my eq), and installed the HIVI q1r tweeters with a. The Hivi is best option for replacing the original tweeters that dont perform as well after nearly 50 years. These speakers sound amazing, and can go very loud if you have a good amplifier. Smooth and sweet sound. The cabinets are a 8.5 to 9 out of 10. I put new linen on the original grill frame. I would keep these, but I have the ar9, ar90, ar9lsi, ar3a, ar50, ar98lsi and I just need to make some space. These are verry nice sounding vintage speakers.
