Acoustic Research AR-2ax Loudspeaker Pair. Oiled-Walnut Serial # AX 235351 & AX 235659. AR-2ax Oiled-Walnut Cabinets Serial numbers: AX 235351 and AX 235659 Excellent condition! This pair of Acoustic Research AR-2ax speakers is in excellent working and excellent physical condition. These amazing speakers have been incredibly well cared for over the years! Until they came into my possession recently, they were owned by only two others. The second owner had them refoamed and recapped for many more years of audiophile performance! The oiled-walnut cabinets are in very good to excellent condition with only a few noticeable marks or scratches. The wood finish is very smooth and has been properly cared for over the years. The grain for this pair is “half-round” cut black walnut in oiled (boiled-linseed oil) finish with final wax, and this cut makes the wood extremely smooth. As you can see in the photos, one cabinet top has the typical plant stand ring on it. The other does not, but appears slightly darker in color. A couple small nics are shown on where the walnut meets the back side, as well as some squiggly scrapes on the side of one. I believe the linen grills are original and they fit snug to the cabinet. One badge is original, the other is a hand-made wooden replacement, that is kind of cool, and at first glance hard to notice. These speakers are in excellent audible condition. The woofers produce clean, excellent bass response, and the new woofer surrounds will last for years to come. The midrange and super tweeter drivers have very smooth and clean output. These speakers have been operated and checked out over an extended period of time just prior to this listing. Typical for the age, the controls have some oxidation and must be rotated back and forth to find the right spots, but overall, the controls work well. All drivers work great, and the speakers produce a very smooth and clear sound. According to the 2nd owner, New capacitors were installed, at the same time the new surrounds were done.
