Offered here is a pair of working Acoustic Research model AR-4x stereo speakers in good used condition. These date to around 1971-72. They measure approximately 19″ tall x 10″ wide x 9 deep. The highs are crystal clear and they paint a really nice sonic picture. The tweeter controls on the back are working, but like most of these AR speakers, are quite scratchy when being rotated. There are some dead spots, but they can eventually be dialed in and sound fantastic once that is accomplished. The woofers on these have doped fabric surrounds and are still viable and work well. Tweeters are in good shape. I think t hese would be great vintage speakers for a den or office where space is a concern. Big sound from a small speaker. I’m betting these would sound amazing with a low wattage tube amp. The real wood veneer does show some typical scratches from age and use. The corners look decent and none of them are bashed in, but there are a few small chips to the veneer on a couple of the edges. I oiled the cabinets with some Liquid Gold wood oil and it hides everything fairly well, but obviously they don’t look perfect. The grills on these were originally glued in place at the factory. That glue has been removed and the grills are simply setting in place. The new owner may want to consider adding some velcro or something else to keep them in place.
