Being an audio purist, I part out or modify vintage audio as a last resort. This modification concept was conceived many years ago by my vintage audio mentor/ now physically unable to repair audio gear as ALS has confined him to a wheelchair. He compared the specs of the AR-4, AR-4x, and AR-4XA, as well as other AR models and concluded the AR-4X with the 2nd generation woofer, 1st generation 3.5 tweeter, and an added super horn tweeter AKA the AR-3 would make the best engineered speaker in history even better. He pulled the pots, bypassed the rheostats, and recapped with reconfigured capacitor and induction values. The super tweeter he chose for this project is the legendary Realistic 40-1310B Super Bullet Horn Tweeter. I found the AR-4 donor speakers and restored them to original condition, reinstalling the 3.5 CTS tweeters from the AR-4X cabinets and did a recap to match the original induction values. The grill frames are excellent with the original tweed grill cloth and one AR grill badge present. Both 8 original drivers and Realistic super tweeters are working properly. I have one spare CTS tweeter I will include with this listing. These speakers could be restored to their original or modified condition.
