Cathedral Bozak 2-way audiophile speakers, perhaps a great bargain in terms of the kind of performance audiophiles seek. These are also a revival of the Bozak Sonora line with a better current production tweeter and crossover components, and the original Bozak Sonora 8-inch 800 series woofers, in the bit larger and beefier Acoustic Research cabinets of the same era. Loaded with highly regarded vintage woofers made by Bozak and provided with the Sonoras, as well as respected Peerless tweeters. Concerning this woofer, Bozak states. To approach the perfection of three-way Bozak systems, Bozak engineers had not only to develop a special component speaker to handle the bass and midrange frequencies, but also develop a vented enclosure to assure open bass tones. The wide-range Model B-800B speakers employs a spun aluminum cone of patented design to provide a combination of rigidity with low mass and high compliance to permit outstanding transient response over a broad frequency range. The crossover is designed in 1st order Butterworth with a 1,300 Hz intersection frequency, and designed for minimal interference with sound nuances and detail. It is also equipped with audiophile grade components such as Clarity Caps, Mundorf, and Bennic. Finished and tuned in late’60s heavy quality cabinets made by Acoustic Research with genuine walnut or cherry wood veneer–showing some age, but quite acceptable cosmetically. Banana jacks (only) and tuned bass ports in the rear. These speakers produce some great mid-bass as the spun solid-aluminum woofer cones have almost no possibility of sound breakup. Bozak was a pioneer in good quality sound reproduction and is evident by the wide range that this woofer provides along with the Peerless tweeter “putting the icing on top”. The sound performance is rather balanced in disposition and will work well with audiophile solid state and tube gear providing a wide but focused soundstage.
