Up for sale is a pair of Acoustic Research 4x speakers in good, used condition. These are part of my Acoustic Research collection that Ive decided to thin out due to having too many. Aside from the replaced capacitors, they are in original condition. The veneer has signs of wear/damage but it still looks great. The grille fabric has aged/yellowed but still looks presentable. It order to make them play music again, I replaced the aged capacitor with a new Dayton film cap and resealed the cloth surround with the correct sealant used by Acoustic Research. The surround will feel tacky from the dissolved rubber solution but it remains airtight and flexible. The tweeter level control pot is original and can be finicky to adjust but it does work. I think I bought replacements but never got around to actually installing them. The serial numbers are 6 digits apart. I’m not sure the brass badges are original. They are not stamped but have a logo printed on them. The are fairly oxidized so i never gave it close scrutiny. No matter, it has no effect on how they sound. Ive kept the wood preserved with orange oil every year and didnt have them near direct sunlight when in use. These are fantastic 2 way speakers that work great with tube amps or solid state gear. I rotated these between AR-6s in my office but always liked these better. Ive recently changed offices and have a set of 2axs setup so Ive decided to sell these. Packaging will be in 2 separate boxes with bubble wrap and hard sheet foam insulation to prevent damage in transit.
