Description : The Acoustic Research 302 is a remarkably affordable reference quality loudspeaker designed to reproduce the wide dynamic swings of real-world music with a most incredible, life-like sound. Housing an exposed soft dome tweeter and dome midrange which utilizes the Filtered Soft Dome Technology, the speaker delivers silky highs and smooth range while its acoustic suspension long-throw woofer fills in bottom octaves with powerful, extended bass. The units have acoustic suspension, which offers the advantage of good transient response, slow roll-off, and easy interface with subwoofers. The midrange and tweeter are small dome units that are flush-mounted in a vertical array, mirror-imaged between the pair of speakers. The PC board of Acoustic Research 302 holds all the crossover elements. It is filled on both sides with components owing to the multi-order three-way design and attached to the plastic panel that holds the speaker terminals. The inductors are iron-core and the capacitors are unbypassed electrolytics. The Acoustic Research 302 speakers have dry but unusually truthful accuracy with voices and instruments and in the midrange. Bass extends down to about 35Hz and provides a solid foundation for any genre of music. It is not quite as fast as more modern designs, but careful positioning keeps these speakers punchy and rhythmic. Musically these are very satisfying transducers, which are naturally sweet and involving sounding and faithfully recreate music. The transparent mid-band gives this speaker its musical insight and subtlety. It sounds a little restrained in the treble so the speakers would be an ideal candidate to partner with a fast and bright sounding solid state amplifier.
