Acoustic Research AR9 Mid & Woofer Speaker Repair Kit. This is the correct kit that fits on the 12″ woofers and the 8″ mid-bass speakers. Each Refoam Kit includes all the materials needed to repair four (4) woofers and two (2) mids. Two 8″ (F8-2) and four 12″ (F11-1) Foam Surrounds. Shims For Centering the 1.5 Voice Coils (mids). Shims For Centering the 2 Voice Coils (woofers). Two 3.25 Screen (thin fabric) Dust Caps (mids). Four 2.75 Screen (thin fabric) Dust Caps (woofers). 1 Big Bottle of Specially Formulated Foam Surround Adhesive. It can be difficult to refoam a speaker without removing the dust cap and inserting the plastic shims. The plastic shims are used to center the voice coil and cone assembly while the speaker is being refoamed. If you do not use the plastic shims, the voice coil may be off center and it may lead to the voice coil rubbing. The 8 mid-bass has a paper dust cap under the screen dust cap, so you can either center it by hand (not cutting off the screen dust cap and not using shims) or what we do is cut the screen dust cap off first, then cut the paper dust cap almost off (u shape), flip it up and insert the shims. When the refoam is done, remove the shims, glue back down the paper dust cap and then glue down the new 3.25 screen dust cap that is provided with the kit.
