I had a pair of great sounding AR4x speakers that unfortunately had battered cabinets. Luckily, I found a pair of 4X clones that were made by Heathkit in the late 1960s – model number AS-16. The speakers were exact clones of the original AR. This is something in that Heathkit did quite a bit. Unfortunately, the drivers they used were inferior to the original AR drivers. Happily, when I opened up the Heathkit cabinets I discovered that the AR drivers from my AR4X fit perfectly into the gorgeous Heathkit cabinets. Please see pics – they are absolutely stunning, with blonde cabinets and woven cane grills. You won’t find a pair of AR4X anywhere like this, but they sound exactly the same. I’ve even attached AR emblems to the front of the grills. Please see pics of the interior to confirm that these are original AR drivers. You can see the tweeter is dated 1965. I also installed new capacitors and left the existing tweeter potentiometer in place. I hope someone out there will appreciate what I’ve done and be attracted to how gorgeously beautiful these speakers are. With the AR drivers they pack the same incredible punch that the original AR4X did. Double boxed with padding to protect the corners.
