FIRST THING I DID WHEN I RECEIVED THEM WAS TO CAREFULLY REMOVE THE GRILLS THEN ALL THEN THE DRIVERS, AND THEN THE WOOL TYPE STUFFING. THEN CHECK’D ALL THE DRIVERS TO SEE WHICH ONES WERE WORKING AND WHICH ONES WERE NOT. IF NOT THEN THEY WERE REPLACED WITH SAME TYPE WORKING DRIVER. THE WOOFER SURROUNDS WERE LITELY BRUSHED OFF (DUST COLLECTS ON THOSE SURFACES) AND THEN I APPLIED A VERY LITE COAT OF A POLYMER WHICH SEALS YET REMAINS PLIABLE. IT LEAVES A SATIN LIKE FINISH WHEN DRY. I THEN REMOVED THE POTS THAT WERE NOT WORKING, AND TOOK THEM APART, AND POLISHED ALL THE CONTACT SURFACES, AND APPLIED A DROP OR 2 OF DEOXIT ON THOSE SURFACES. THEN RE-ASSEMBLED AND TESTED. ALL WERE WORKING QUITE GOOD. THEN I TESTED THE CAPACITORS AND IF OUT OF TOLERANCE THEY WERE REPLACED WITH NEW CAPS (OR USED GOOD ONES). THEN I LOOKED AROUND AND DID SOME MINOR TOUCH UP ON THE WOOD USING SOME WALNUT MOHAWK FILL STICKS. THEN I SANITIZED EACH CABINET AND WHEN DRY, I SANDED THEM WITH 000 AND 0000 SANDPAPER. THEN BRUSHED THEM WITH A FINE BRISTLE BRUSH AS THE SANDING CREATED SOME DUST. THE REPAIRED AREAS WERE THEN SPRAYED WITH A SATIN SPRAY FINISH. THEN I USED A LITE WEIGHT LEMON OIL AND THAT GAVE THESE CABS A BEAUTIFUL SATIN SHINE. 2 OF THE GRILL FABRICS ARE NICE AND THOSE REMAIN. THE OTHER 2 WERE EITHER STAINED, OR RIPPED AND THOSE WERE REPLACED WITH A BLACK SPEAKER CLOTH. 2 WERE MISSING THE BADGES, AND 2 WERE BADLY TARNISHED AND DIDN’T CLEAN UP VERY WELL, SO I REPLACED ALL 4 OF THEM WITH NEW SHINY BADGES. THEN I RESTUFFED THE CABS WITH THE INSULATION/STUFFING, REMOUNTED THE DRIVERS, TESTED THE FINISHED SPEAKERS WITH SOME JAZZ, RHYTHM AND BLUES, AND CLASSICAL MUSIC. THEY ALL SOUNDED FANTASTIC. AND THEN I INSTALLED THE GRILLS. I HAVE SOME AR2AX DOCS THAT I WILL INCLUDE. MY FIRST REALLY GOOD PAIR OF SPEAKERS I BOUGHT NEW FROM A STEREO STORE IN 1968. THEY WERE THE 1968 VERSION OF THE AR2AX. (still have the receipt). LITTLE DID I KNOW THEN THAT 56 YEARS LATER THEY STILL ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITES. THESE ARE 56 YEARS OLD AND I WELCOME YOU TO VISIT AND SEE AND HEAR FOR YOURSELF HOW NICE THEY LOOK AND HOW GOOD THEY SOUND. If you would like to see more pictures please ask.
