Vintage Pair of Teledyne Acoustic Research AR 38B 3-Way Speakers. Up for sale is a classic pair of 1980s Acoustic Research (Teledyne AR) 38B 3-way acoustic suspension loudspeakers. Made in America by Teledyne AR these large bookshelf speakers are regarded by vintage hi-fi enthusiasts for their smooth midrange, clear highs, and tight bass response. The original foam surrounds on the woofers and midranges are dry-rotted from age and will require a standard foam surround replacement kit before playing at full volume. This pair makes an outstanding restoration project for hobbyists or audio collectors. Brand: Acoustic Research (Teledyne AR). Model: AR 38B. Configuration: 3-Way Acoustic Suspension. Drivers: 8″ Woofer, 4″ Midrange, 0.75 Soft Dome Tweeter. Nominal Impedance: 6 Ohms. 22″ H x 12″ W x 8 D each. Signal Tested: Both speakers pass signal cleanly through the woofers and tweeters at low volume. Voice Coils: Clear and smooth cone movement with proper push-back and no grinding. Multimeter DCR: Tested at a healthy 7.8 ohms on speaker 1 and 7.7 to 7.9 ohms on speaker 2. Surrounds: The original foam surrounds on the woofers and midranges are dry-rotted from age and will require a standard foam surround replacement kit before playing at full volume. Cabinets & Grilles: Vinyl woodgrain wrap is in nearly pristine overall condition with a small scuff/chip on the back top-right edge of one cabinet. One grille cloth has a small hole.
